Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Evir – Media Converter ("Evir", "the app", "we") handles information when you use the app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device. Where the two platforms differ, this policy says so.

1. Your media stays on your device

Every conversion, compression, and editing operation in Evir — video, audio, image, and PDF — runs entirely on your device using on-device frameworks (FFmpeg plus AVFoundation and Apple's media APIs on iOS; FFmpeg plus Android's media APIs and the on-device Google ML Kit document scanner on Android). Your photos, videos, audio files, and documents:

• are never uploaded to our servers or any third party;
• are never analyzed by us in any way;
• remain under your control in the app's local My Creation folder, which you can access, share, or delete at any time (on iOS it is also visible in the Files app; on Android you can copy items to your public media folders with "Save to device").

2. Data we collect

Evir does not collect personal data. The app has no user accounts, no sign-in, and no advertising.

iPhone and iPad: none. The iOS app contains no analytics or tracking SDKs.

Android: the Android app includes two Google Firebase services:

• Firebase Crashlytics — if the app crashes, a report is sent to Google containing the crash stack trace, the app version, your device model and Android version, and a randomly generated installation identifier. It never contains your files, file names, or the content you were working on.
• Google Analytics for Firebase — anonymous usage statistics such as app opens, screens viewed, app version, device model, Android version, and approximate country (derived from your IP address by Google). We use these only in aggregate to see which features are used and to find problems.

These services are provided by Google and are subject to Firebase's privacy and security documentation and Google's Privacy Policy. We do not link this data to your name, email address, or any other identity, and we do not use it for advertising.

3. Network requests the app makes

Evir works fully offline. Apart from the Android crash and usage reports described above, the only network requests the app makes are lightweight version checks so we can tell you when an update is available:

• a request to our static website (hosted on GitHub Pages) to read a small file describing the latest available app version; and
• on iOS, a request to Apple's public iTunes lookup service to find the app's App Store page.

These requests contain no personal information and no information about your media. Like any web request, they technically expose your IP address to the hosting provider (GitHub and Apple respectively) for the duration of the request; we do not receive, log, or store it.

On Android, the document scanner is delivered through Google Play services, which may download the scanner module from Google the first time you use it. Scanning itself runs on your device; your pages are not uploaded.

4. Device permissions

Evir asks for permissions only when a feature needs them, and only uses them for that feature:

• Photo Library (iOS) / Photos and videos and Music and audio (Android) — to let you pick media to convert, and to save results if you choose. You can grant access to only selected items.
• Camera — used only by the document scanner to scan pages into a PDF.
• Files — files you pick through the system file browser are accessed only to perform the operation you requested.
• Notifications (Android) — to show the progress of running jobs and tell you when one has finished.
• Modify system settings (Android) — requested only when you tap "Set as ringtone", so Evir can make your new ringtone the default. It is not used for anything else.

You can change or revoke any permission at any time in the iOS Settings app or in Android's Settings → Apps → Evir → Permissions.

5. In-app assistant

The in-app assistant answers questions about Evir's features. On iPhones that support Apple Intelligence, it uses Apple's on-device foundation model — your questions are processed on your device and are not sent to us. On other iPhones and on Android, it uses simple built-in responses. On every platform the assistant works offline and never accesses your media.

6. App store data

If you download Evir from the App Store, Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymized statistics (such as download counts and crash reports) in accordance with Apple's Privacy Policy and your own device analytics settings. If you download Evir from Google Play, Google may likewise provide us with aggregated statistics (such as installs, ratings, and Android vitals) in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. This data cannot be used to identify you, and its collection is controlled by Apple or Google, not by us.

Both apps may occasionally show the platform's built-in rating prompt (Apple's StoreKit review request or Google Play In-App Review). That prompt is handled entirely by Apple or Google.

7. Children's privacy

Evir does not collect personal data from anyone, including children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction).

8. Data retention and deletion

All files Evir creates are stored locally on your device; deleting them in the app (or, on iOS, in the Files app), or deleting the app itself, removes them permanently. Files you copied to your public media folders on Android stay there until you delete them.

On iOS we collect no data, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete. The anonymous Android crash and usage reports are stored by Google for the retention periods described in Firebase's documentation and are then deleted automatically; because they are not linked to your identity, we cannot look up or delete an individual person's records. Uninstalling the Android app stops any further reports.

9. Changes to this policy

If we ever change how Evir handles data, we will update this page and revise the effective date above. Material changes (for example, if a future feature required a network service) will be clearly described here before they take effect.
